commercial truck rental

My car was hit while parked. How do i get a rental if i only have liability insurance?
My car was hit while parked yesterday, I got all the insurance info from the driver who hit me and reported the accident to my insurance and also his. The car not be driven after the accident and I only have liability insurance. The accident happened on Saturday and the insurance company for the commercial truck that hit me told me that I could go rent a car and they would reimburse me cost of the rental. Has anyone dealt with a claim similar to mine? Do I really have to pay out of my own pocket for the rental although they said they will pay me back?
If they have told you to rent a car and get paid back -then that is how they chose to handle it. Something to keep in mind- do not rent a nicer car than you have. If you own a subcompact then rent a subcompact - not an suv. They won't pay for you to get a larger car than yours. Also, the rental company will probably require you purchase a damage waiver for the rental car. The other company insurance company may not pay for that. Usually they will pay for the daily rate and tax. Not insurance on the rental. The damage waiver can cost $12-$15 per day. The insurance company will not pay for fuel surcharges. So make sure you return the rental car with the same amount of gas in it - as was in it when you rented it. In my area, Hertz will rent a car to you if you only have liability and will let you be personally responsible for any damage you do to the rental car. Since you only have liability, you may want to speak to them.
