truck weigh stations
How does a truck get weighed at a Weigh Station?

Do people hook up meters to the axels or does it get on a big scale=) No, really!

Big scale.

The scale is a flat piece of steel re-enorced concrete that the truck drives over. The scale is as wide as the road and can be as long as the truck, or it can be short so as to have to measure the weights on each axle (set of wheels) separately.

The scale isn’t on ‘springs’ so there is no dip when the truck goes over it. Instead there are things called ‘load cells’ underneath the concrete flat piece, that measures the force (weight).
